Review: “Madgaon Express” is a buddy comedy that brings back the spirit of films like “Dil Chahta Hai,” “Go Goa Gone,” and “Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara.” Kunal Kemmu, in his directorial debut, keeps the audience giggling throughout the film’s 144 minutes.
The film’s highlights include:
- Clever Dialogues: The movie delivers clever one-liners with impeccable timing. Lines like “Itne participants hain, sirf humari maut ka lucky draw nikalna baaki hai!” add to the humor.
- Powerful Performances: The actors infuse humor even in serious or dangerous situations. Kemmu’s grip on writing ensures that the humor flows organically.
- Nods to Other Films: “Madgaon Express” pays homage to other buddy comedies without feeling forced.
However, there are some downsides:
- Familiar Premise: The protagonists escaping mafioso isn’t a novel premise.
- Over-the-Top Characters: The film features some over-the-top characters, like the mafia fisherwomen led by Kanchan Kombdi (played by Chanda Kamat).
- Pacing Issues: The narrative occasionally loses pace due to long-drawn tracks or jarring situations.
In summary, “Madgaon Express” is a zany rollercoaster that keeps you laughing. It’s a party you won’t want to miss!
